Psyched on Projecting Again!!!

30/6/2013

Lately I've been unable to get myself into projecting.  Every climb I've tried or ticked has been to some point uninspiring.

I gave myself a goal this week, to get on Beautiful Thing(28) and Spoonman (28).  With minimal 27s in South East Queensland, I had to skip a grade or two :P

Progression had been very minimal the first few times on the climbs. Friday I was on Spoonman, it’s such a powerful and steep climb. I once thought, I would never get to the anchors. Especially when I tried it 4 months ago and only managed to pull the crux once after 3 dogging sessions.   This time I came back more determined and stronger. I got every move without too much effort and finally got to the anchors!

Similar events occurred with Beautiful thing! I have never been on a climb with so many gastones and even in the crux this giant gastone is a stopper if body tension isn't held. I tired over and over, an couldn’t get the crux at all. I was too short for the manly way and jess’s way. So intermediates were the key, I modified jess’s awesome beta and managed to pull the crux move in the 4 attempt and then was able to finish the climb.

It felt so good to have such major progress on the climbs and in a relatively small time frame! Finally psyched and ready to work on some linkage then some sweet sendage.

2 Girls 1 Rack!

19/6/2013

With the best weather, company and gear a girl could ask for!!! I was on a mission to:

1. De-virginate and give my new trad rack a thrashing
2. Give my good friend Aynia, a great day of Frog Buttress trad climbing for her belated birthday
3. Get in touch with the first climbs I lead when I first started crack climbing and see the progression

Bright and early Aynia and I headed to Frog Buttress. Super Psyched as it was Aynias second time out there and I got to use my super shiney 8kg rack. Imagine me with a rack that big! After arriving we taped up our hands and I gave Aynia the run down with hand and fist jamming.

It was like a trip down memory crack. We did Electric Lead, Materialistic Prostitution, Horse Drawn Zeppelin and Gladiator. I managed to stay in the crack of Gladiator the whole way!! Hell yess!!! By the end of it Aynia got the hand jamming thing down pat and also learnt technique in 3Dish climbing.  My hexes got a bit scratched up after being stuck in a few spots and needed some nut tool and rock hammer action.

Even after 4 climbs, we made it to the cafe just in time! Best sweet potato chips and thick shakes everrrr!!! Yummoo!

Thanks for the photos Baboiii!

Time for a Social Comp

15/6/2013

So on Saturday night was the ICP Social competition! The format of this comp was a head to head battle with another climber on similar technical climbs either on lead or top rope. The ICP crew did not know how the comp would go, due to this different format. It turned out to be a great!!! The kids had a great time and so did the more experienced climbers.

Lucy had to pull out of the competition due to injury. So I was climbing side by side Bo, racing against a 2 minute time limit for each climb and a competitor next to you certainly got your heart pumping! After climbing both routes back to back, times were added. I came first in the qualifiers Wooooo!!!

Finals, was completing the 2 same routes again but with the top 2 competitors. That was Issy and I!!! If you didn't know Issy and I have been training together for a while now, so we both know our strengths and weaknesses. Issy is the most static climber I know, I even push her to climb faster when we are training. So yes, speed is not her forte. We battled it out! Who won? and by how much?

ISSY and by 1 second! AMAZING :D

Special thanks to John Amsler for the photos and the ICP Crew for holding a fantastic competition.
