Red River Gorgeous!

30/1/2013

On the 27th of September 2012, I set off on my first solo climbing trip overseas! It was a bit of a mission getting to the Red. After 2 missed planes from San Francisco to Lexington and lost luggage.  I finally found my feet after my belongings were returned and I had purchased all my cooking gear and food. Then the climbing was on!

So what is the climbing style in Red River Gorge?
  • Did you say pockets? Well its pockets galore!
  • Long routes. Mainly around 30m. Word of advice keep on moving. FIGHT THAT PUMP!!!
  • Plenty of sport and don't forget your trade rack.
  • Bolts are usually well spaced, with a scary run out to the anchors.
  • Steep thugging but quite a few classic slabs.

My highlights were the awesome climbers, unique rock and easing into dirt bag life.

Here is a video of my experience! Enjoy :D
